My Amish Bread in 3 Styles....

Amish White Bread Recipe
[Adapted from AllRecipes.com]
http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/amish-white-bread/Detail.aspx

What you need:

Ingredients:
2 cups lukewarm water
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 TBSP active dry yeast
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 TBSP vanilla extract
6 cups bread flour

Method:

1. In a large bowl, dissolve 2TBSP of sugar in lukewarm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam (about 10 minutes). Then, add the remainder of the sugar.
2. Add in salt and butter into the yeast mixture. Add in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, oil coat the dough to avoid drying. Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise about 1 hour or until double in size.
3. Punch dough down and knead for a few more minutes, then divide in half (or even more). Shape into loaves (or the bread styles as you desire), and place into two well oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans. This time, I used three small pans.
Optional: At this stage, you may wish add fillings of your choice or simply sprinkle with brown sugar, desiccated coconut, cinnamon or what-have-you.
4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Allow to cool before cutting.

ENJOY the magic of breads!
